Mercedes-AMG E63 W213 — M177 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 Performance Guide

The Mercedes-AMG E63 W213 (2018–present) is the most powerful E-Class sedan ever produced. The E63 runs the M177 LS2 variant of AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with twin-scroll turbochargers, larger compressor housings, and more aggressive factory boost targets than the C63 variant. Factory output is 563 HP (E63) or 603 HP (E63 S), paired with AMG's 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and a rear-biased torque split that can send 100% of torque to the rear axle in Race and Drift modes.

The E63 S accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds — faster than many dedicated sports cars. The 4MATIC+ system puts power down in any condition, making the E63 one of the most effective high-power daily drivers in the AMG lineup. The combination of the MCT 9-speed gearbox, rear-axle locking differential, and AMG's adaptive damping system means the E63 transitions from luxury sedan to track weapon with a mode switch.

ECU Tuning

The E63's twin-scroll turbochargers have larger compressor housings than the C63 variant, giving the E63 even more tuning headroom on stock hardware. Stage 1 delivers 650–700 WHP with revised boost, fuel, and torque maps — no hardware changes. Stage 2 with catless downpipes pushes to 720–780 WHP with improved turbo efficiency. Stage 3 hybrid turbo packages reach 1,000+ WHP on the stock block, though forged internals are strongly recommended at this level.

All E63 W213 calibrations are developed in-house using the same M177 expertise proven in the world-record C63 W205. Tuning is delivered via YPG Flash (remote OBD) or YPG Bench (mail-in for locked ECU platforms).

Performance Upgrade Path

The E63's 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive gives it an enormous advantage over the RWD C63 in traction-limited launches and roll-race scenarios. Stage 1 is a no-brainer: significant power with zero hardware cost. Stage 2 adds downpipes and typically an Eventuri carbon intake for improved airflow. The E63 S's factory electronic LSD and torque-vectoring rear axle handle Stage 2 power without modification. For Stage 3 and beyond, the upgrade path mirrors the C63: hybrid turbos, race downpipes, intake, exhaust, and matched calibration, with M177 forged crate engines available for maximum builds.
