M177 Crate Engine Build — Complete 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 Long Block for C63, E63 & GT63 AMG

The Mercedes-AMG M177 is the workhorse of AMG's modern lineup — a 3,982 cc twin-turbo V8 with the now-legendary hot-inside-V turbo layout. It powers the C63 AMG (W205), E63 AMG (W213), AMG GT 63, GLC63, GLE63, and more. At YPG Motorsport, we build complete M177 crate engines with forged internals, race-spec tolerances, and the hardware to support 1,500 HP+ with upgraded turbochargers.

What Is an M177 Crate Engine?

A crate engine — also known as a long block — is a fully assembled engine ready to install. Our M177 crate engines include the complete rotating assembly (forged crankshaft, forged H-beam connecting rods, forged pistons), CNC-ported cylinder heads with upgraded valvetrain, all internal bearings, seals, and gaskets. Bolt on your turbos, accessories, and wiring — and go.

This is the definitive upgrade for anyone building serious power on the M177 platform. No core exchange required. Built fresh, shipped worldwide.

Who Orders an M177 Crate Engine?

Owners of the C63 AMG W205, E63 AMG W213, AMG GT 63, GLC63, GLE63, and other M177-equipped chassis who are pushing past the limits of stock internals. The factory M177 bottom end starts showing its limits around 700–800 HP — above that, forged internals are not optional, they are mandatory. Our crate engine eliminates the risk and gives you a proven foundation for four-figure power.

M177 vs M178 — Which Engine Do I Have?

Both are AMG's 4.0L twin-turbo V8, but they are not the same engine. The M177 uses a wet sump oiling system and is found in sedan, SUV, and four-door coupe applications (C63, E63, GT63, GLC63, GLE63). The M178 uses a dry sump system and is exclusive to the two-door AMG GT sports car (GT, GTS, GTR, GT R Pro). They share the same bore and stroke but differ in block casting, oil system, and accessory fitment.

Forged Internals — Built for Big Boost

The stock M177 uses cast pistons and powder-metal rods that were designed for factory boost levels. Our forged rotating assembly — billet crankshaft, 4340 H-beam rods, forged pistons with coated skirts — handles the cylinder pressures that come with upgraded turbochargers, methanol injection, and aggressive ECU calibration. Every assembly is balanced and blueprinted to race tolerances.

Build Process

Every M177 crate engine is assembled in-house at YPG Motorsport in Kuwait. Block inspection, honing, and sleeving as needed. Bearing clearances set to our race program. Rotating assembly balanced as a unit. CNC-ported heads with upgraded valvetrain. Fresh fasteners throughout, torqued to spec.

Build time is 7–21 days. Shipped via FedEx or DHL directly to your door, worldwide.
