M177 Short Block Build — Forged 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 Bottom End for C63, E63 & GT63 AMG
The M177 short block is the foundation of every big-power AMG 4.0L build. When you are pushing past 700–800 HP on the twin-turbo V8, the factory cast pistons and powder-metal rods become the limiting factor. Our M177 forged short block replaces them with a fully balanced, blueprinted bottom end built for 1,500 HP+ — assembled in-house at YPG Motorsport in Kuwait.
What Is an M177 Short Block?
A short block is the engine's bottom end: block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, bearings, and internal seals. It does not include cylinder heads, turbochargers, intake, exhaust manifolds, or accessories. You supply and install your own heads — either your originals or a set of our M177 CNC-ported heads — along with your turbo setup and accessories.
Choose the short block when your heads are still healthy but your bottom end needs a full forged rebuild.

When to Choose a Short Block Over a Crate Engine
If your M177 heads are in good condition — no cracks, no excessive wear — you can save cost by ordering the short block and reusing your heads. You get the same forged rotating assembly that goes into our M177 crate engine. For maximum performance, pair this short block with our M177 CNC-ported heads.

Forged Internals — No Compromises
Every M177 short block ships with a forged billet crankshaft, forged 4340 H-beam connecting rods, and forged pistons with coated skirts. Compression ratio is set for boost applications. The rotating assembly is balanced as a complete unit — crank, rods, pistons, and damper — and bearing clearances are set to our race program specs.
Build Process
The M177 block is fully inspected for bore roundness, deck height, and main bore alignment. Cylinders are honed to our spec and sleeved where needed. Every component is assembled with fresh ARP fasteners, torqued to spec, and documented. Build time is 7–21 days.
