Mercedes-AMG GT / GTS / GTR — M178 4.0T V8 ECU Tuning & Performance Parts

The Mercedes-AMG GT family runs the M178 — the flat-plane crankshaft, dry-sump variant of the AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Factory output ranges from 469 HP (GT) to 577 HP (GT R) to 720 HP (GT Black Series). The flat-plane crank gives the M178 a higher-revving, more exotic exhaust character than the cross-plane M177 found in the C63 and E63 — closer to a Ferrari V8 in sound and response.

The M178 responds aggressively to ECU calibration. A Stage 1 tune on the AMG GT S delivers 600–650 HP. Stage 2 with catless downpipes pushes to 700–750 HP. YPG Motorsport's own AMG GT S build — the YPG9XX — runs 776 WHP on the Stage 3 hybrid turbo package with methanol injection, demonstrating the platform's potential on stock internals.

What's available: Stage 1 and Stage 2 ECU tunes via YPG Flash or YPG Bench, catless and 200-cell M178 downpipes, Stage 3 hybrid turbo upgrades, Stage 4 full-billet race turbos rated to 1,200 HP+, M178 forged internals, complete M178 crate engines, blow-off valves, and KW coilover suspension systems. All calibrations developed in-house by YPG Motorsport from our own AMG GT builds.
