BMW M3/M4 G8X Stage 1 vs Stage 2 ECU Tune — S58 3.0T Power Comparison
BMW M3/M4 G8X — Stage 1 vs Stage 2 ECU Tune
The BMW G80 M3 and G82 M4 are powered by the S58 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six — one of the most tuneable engines BMW has ever produced. With 480–510 HP stock (base vs Competition), the S58 responds aggressively to ECU calibration. Here's what Stage 1 and Stage 2 deliver.
Power Comparison — S58 3.0T I6

Stage 1 — Software Only
The S58 Stage 1 tune recalibrates boost targets, ignition maps, and VANOS timing to extract approximately 90 HP over stock Competition figures. The S58's factory turbos have significant headroom — BMW deliberately underrates the engine for emissions and longevity. A Stage 1 tune unlocks that margin with no hardware modifications. The result is a sharper, more responsive M3/M4 that pulls noticeably harder from 3,500 RPM to redline.
Stage 2 — ECU + Catless Downpipes
Stage 2 adds catless or high-flow downpipes and typically an upgraded charge pipe to eliminate boost leaks. The reduced backpressure allows the S58's turbos to maintain peak boost deeper into the RPM range, adding approximately 60 HP over Stage 1. At ~660 HP, the G8X M3/M4 is firmly in supercar-killing territory — faster than most factory Ferraris and Lamborghinis in a straight line.
Beyond Stage 2 — YPG8XX Package
YPG Motorsport's YPG8XX Stage 3 package pushes the G8X platform beyond 800 HP with upgraded turbos, fueling, and a complete ECU recalibration — one of the fastest M3/M4 builds in the GCC.
