AMG SLS & AMG GT Tuning — M156, M178 Performance Upgrades | YPG Motorsport

YPG Motorsport tunes both the AMG SLS (M156 naturally aspirated V8) and the AMG GT/GT S/GT R (M178 twin-turbo V8) — two of the most characterful AMG performance platforms ever built. Both reward calibration and exhaust upgrades significantly, though through different mechanisms given their distinct engine architectures.

AMG SLS — M156 6.3L Naturally Aspirated V8

ECU Tuning — Stage 1

The M156 is naturally aspirated — ECU tuning focuses on throttle optimization, ignition timing, and fuel delivery rather than boost management. Gains are more modest than forced-induction platforms but the improvement in throttle response and upper-RPM delivery is significant.

  • SLS Stage 1: 600–615 HP / +29–44 HP
  • Significantly sharper throttle response — the M156's electronically controlled throttle is particularly responsive to calibration
  • Improved power delivery above 6,000 RPM

Exhaust — Akrapovic

The M156 with Akrapovic Evolution system is extraordinary. The naturally aspirated 6.3L V8 at high RPM through titanium Akrapovic is one of the best sounds the AMG SLS produces — and the weight reduction (approximately 16 kg on the SLS) is significant. YPG is an authorized Akrapovic dealer.

AMG GT / GT S / GT R — M178 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8

  • AMG GT Stage 1: 530–550 HP / +68–88 HP
  • AMG GT S Stage 1: 585–600 HP / +75–90 HP
  • AMG GT R Stage 1: 650–670 HP / +73–93 HP

Stage 2 — ECU + Catless Downpipes + Eventuri

  • AMG GT S Stage 2: 650–680 HP
  • AMG GT R Stage 2: 720–750 HP
  • The M178 with catless downpipes and Eventuri intake is one of the best-sounding modern AMG configurations available
  • Eventuri is particularly valuable on the AMG GT — the mid-engine layout places the intake in a hot zone and the sealed Eventuri duct significantly reduces IAT under sustained load

YPG's AMG GT R — YPG750 Package

YPG Motorsport built and validated the YPG750 AMG GT R build at Kuwait Motor Town — producing over 750 HP from the M178 with full Stage 2 hardware and a bench ECU calibration optimized for track use on KMT's FIA Grade 2 certified surface. This is the reference build for AMG GT platform tuning at YPG.
