Range Rover Sport SVR ECU Tuning Guide — Supercharged 5.0L V8 | Stage 1 & Stage 2 | 2026
Range Rover Sport SVR ECU Tuning — Unlocking Supercharged V8 Power
The Range Rover Sport SVR is one of the most underrated performance platforms in the tuning world. Built around Jaguar Land Rover's AJ133 supercharged 5.0-litre V8 — the same engine that powers the Jaguar F-Type R and Range Rover SVAutobiography — this SUV produces 575 PS (567 HP) in factory trim. With ECU calibration, the gains are immediate, linear, and remarkably safe. YPG Motorsport has tuned dozens of these platforms across the GCC, North America, and Europe, and the results speak for themselves.
Whether you own a Sport SVR, a full-size Range Rover with the supercharged V8, or a Range Rover Sport V8 in non-SVR trim, the tuning path is fundamentally the same. The AJ133 engine architecture responds predictably to calibration changes, making it one of the most rewarding platforms for remote ECU tuning.
Stage 1 ECU Tune — +40 to 60 HP, No Hardware Required
A Stage 1 ECU calibration is the single best modification you can make to a supercharged Range Rover. This is a software-only recalibration of the factory ECU — no parts to install, no hardware changes, and fully reversible to stock. YPG's Stage 1 calibration optimizes ignition timing maps, supercharger boost targets, fuel enrichment curves, and throttle response tables.
On the Sport SVR, a Stage 1 tune delivers approximately 610–630 HP at the crank with a corresponding torque increase to 530–550 lb-ft. The power delivery becomes noticeably more aggressive, with the supercharger building boost faster and the throttle mapping eliminating the factory's conservative calibration. For GCC-based owners running 95 or 98 RON fuel, YPG calibrates specifically for the octane rating available at your local pump — never a generic map.
What Stage 1 Changes
- Ignition timing advance: Optimized per-cylinder timing maps for premium fuel
- Supercharger boost targets: Slight increase in boost pressure within factory hardware limits
- Fuel enrichment: Adjusted air-fuel ratios under load for maximum safe power
- Throttle response: Eliminated factory drive-by-wire lag
- Speed limiter removal: Factory 250 km/h limiter removed (track use only)
- Transmission calibration: Faster shift points, firmer shifts, adjusted torque converter lockup
Stage 2 ECU Tune — Supercharger Pulley Upgrade, +80 to 120 HP
Stage 2 is where the supercharged V8 platform truly separates itself from turbocharged competition. By reducing the supercharger pulley diameter, you physically spin the Eaton TVS2300 supercharger faster, forcing more air into the engine. Combined with a recalibrated ECU tune optimized for the increased boost, Stage 2 delivers 650–690 HP on a Sport SVR.
The beauty of supercharger tuning is that there is no lag. Unlike turbo setups that require exhaust gas to spool a turbine, the supercharger is mechanically driven by the crankshaft — power delivery is instant and linear from idle to redline. This makes the driving experience on a Stage 2 SVR uniquely addictive.
Stage 2 Hardware Requirements
- Supercharger upper pulley: Reduced from factory ~76mm to 72mm or 68mm, depending on target power
- Crank pulley (optional): Oversized lower pulley for additional drive ratio change
- High-flow intake: Aftermarket cold air intake or intake tube to feed the increased airflow demand
- Intercooler upgrade (recommended for GCC): Liquid-to-air intercooler efficiency drops significantly in 45°C+ ambient temperatures — an upgraded heat exchanger or dual-pass intercooler core is strongly recommended for Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia
- Exhaust (optional): Cat-back or headers improve exhaust flow but are not required for Stage 2 power targets
GCC-Specific Tuning Considerations
Tuning a supercharged V8 in the Gulf is not the same as tuning one in Germany or the United States. Ambient temperatures in Kuwait regularly exceed 50°C in summer, which directly impacts intake air temperature, intercooler efficiency, and engine coolant temperatures. YPG Motorsport builds GCC-specific calibrations that account for these conditions.
Our calibrations include heat-soak protection strategies that pull timing under extreme intake air temperatures rather than allowing the engine to knock. We also calibrate for the specific fuel grades available in the GCC — 95 RON and 98 RON — rather than assuming European 100 RON or US 93 AKI availability.
For shipping logistics, YPG offers remote ECU tuning for Range Rover owners worldwide. The process involves shipping your ECU module to our facility, receiving the calibration, and reinstalling — typically a 5-7 business day turnaround including international shipping.
Range Rover SVAutobiography and Non-SVR V8 Models
The full-size Range Rover with the supercharged 5.0L V8 — including the SVAutobiography — shares the AJ133 engine with the Sport SVR. Factory power output varies by model year and specification (510–565 HP), but the tuning path is identical. Stage 1 gains are typically in the 40–60 HP range regardless of starting power, and Stage 2 with a pulley upgrade scales proportionally.
The non-SVR Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged (510 HP factory) is particularly good value for tuning — a Stage 1 tune brings it to near-SVR power levels at a fraction of the SVR purchase price. Many YPG customers buy the standard Sport V8 specifically because they plan to tune it beyond SVR levels anyway.
Transmission Behavior and Limits
All modern Range Rover V8 models use the ZF 8HP automatic transmission — the same gearbox found across BMW, Aston Martin, and Bentley platforms. In stock calibration, the ZF 8HP is rated for approximately 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Stage 1 tunes remain well within this limit. Stage 2 setups approach it, and any build targeting over 700 HP should budget for a transmission upgrade — either a built ZF unit or a torque converter upgrade.
YPG's ECU calibration includes transmission tuning as standard — shift points, shift firmness, torque converter lockup strategy, and line pressure are all recalibrated to match the increased engine output.
