YPG Stage 2 Package — Ferrari 488 GTB Track Development at Kuwait Motor Town

661 horsepower from the factory. 760 horsepower at the crank with the YPG Stage 2 Package — and 780–800+ WHP once Fabspeed race downpipes and charge pipes are added. The Ferrari 488 GTB runs the F154CB 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8, one of the most responsive forced-induction platforms Ferrari has ever built. This article covers the YPG Stage 2 build specification and the development work behind the calibration — done in-house, in GCC conditions, validated at Kuwait Motor Town.

The F154 Engine — Why the 488 Responds

The F154CB 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 660–661hp from the factory, but Ferrari left meaningful headroom in the turbochargers, fuelling system, and engine management. The 488 GTB, Spider, and Pista all share this engine and ECU. Address the calibration and the exhaust restriction downstream of the turbos and the F154 answers with 760hp at the crank on pump fuel — no internal engine modifications required.

The YPG Stage 2 Package — Full Breakdown

YPG Stage 2 ECU Calibration

Full F154 engine management recalibration. Boost pressure raised, fuel and AFR mapping rewritten for GCC 95–98 RON, throttle response sharpened, rev and top-speed limiters removed, and CEL handling adjusted for the aftermarket exhaust. +80–100 WHP on its own. View the Ferrari 488 Stage 2 ECU Tune — $2,999.99.

Catless Race Downpipes

Mandatory for Stage 2. The factory exhaust cannot flow the higher boost targets — catless downpipes let the turbos spool freely. Fabspeed Race Downpipes (T304 stainless, bolt-on) add +30–50 WHP and are the most popular pairing with the YPG Stage 2 tune. Capristo cat-delete pipes are an alternative.

Intake Charge Pipes

Fabspeed mandrel-bent 6061 aluminium charge pipes replace the failure-prone factory plastic — +21 WHP and +23 lb-ft at 3,800 RPM, and a reliability upgrade in GCC heat.

GCC Thermal Calibration

The factory Ferrari ECU is aggressive about thermal protection in heat. Every YPG 488 file is calibrated for 45–55°C GCC summer ambient — not European baseline data — correcting the thermal management strategy without sacrificing engine safety margins.

Power Figures — Stage by Stage

Stage HP (crank) Torque Requirements
Stock 660 HP 760 Nm
Stage 1 710 HP 830 Nm ECU only
Stage 2 760 HP 900 Nm Catless downpipes + ECU

Crank figures on 95–98 RON GCC fuel. The full bolt-on build — YPG Stage 2 ECU, Fabspeed race downpipes, and charge pipes — reaches 780–800+ WHP at the wheels from a factory 661hp GTB.

Track Development at Kuwait Motor Town

Kuwait Motor Town is the GCC's only FIA Grade 2 certified circuit and YPG Motorsport's home track for calibration validation. The 488's Stage 2 file was developed in the same conditions GCC owners actually drive in — ambient temperatures above 50°C at track level, sustained full-throttle load, and repeated heat cycles that reveal thermal management issues a European dyno test never will. The factory thermal protection strategy is the first thing to surface in Gulf heat; correcting it without touching engine safety margins is the core of the YPG calibration. This is also the circuit where YPG Motorsport set the world record for the first 9-second W205 Mercedes-AMG C63 — the same in-house calibration discipline applied to the 488.

661hp to 760hp on two modifications — ECU and downpipes. The F154 is one of the most rewarding turbocharged platforms Ferrari has built.

Available Across the GCC and Worldwide

The YPG Stage 2 Package for the Ferrari 488 is available across the GCC — Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman — and internationally. ECU calibration is handled via mail-in bench service (ECU shipped to Kuwait, calibrated and returned in 2–4 business days) or a remote flash tool shipped worldwide. Hardware ships worldwide via FedEx International Priority. Compatible: 488 GTB and Spider (2015–2019), 488 Pista and Pista Spider (2018–2020). Frequently Asked Questions

How much power does the Ferrari 488 GTB make with YPG Stage 2?
760hp at the crank (roughly 700–730 WHP) on the ECU-plus-catless-downpipes Stage 2 package. The full bolt-on build with Fabspeed downpipes and charge pipes reaches 780–800+ WHP. Factory output is 661hp.

What does Stage 2 require?
Catless downpipes plus the YPG Stage 2 ECU calibration. The factory exhaust cannot flow the higher boost targets, so downpipes are mandatory — running Stage 2 software on a stock exhaust gives diminishing returns and higher exhaust temperatures.

Is YPG Stage 2 safe for the F154 engine?
Yes. YPG calibrations retain all factory safety systems. The F154 twin-turbo V8 is designed for high boost from the factory, and Stage 2 works within the engine's proven capability — no internal modifications required.

What fuel does a tuned 488 require?
98 RON (93 octane) minimum. E30 ethanol-blend calibrations are available for customers with access to ethanol fuel for additional power.

Is the 488 Spider or Pista the same?
The 488 GTB and Spider share the F154 engine and ECU — the process and power figures are identical. The 488 Pista reaches 750+ WHP on the same calibration approach.
