BMW M5 G90 (S68) Tuning Guide — Plug-in Hybrid V8 Performance for the GCC | YPG Motorsport

The G90-generation BMW M5 reinvents the super-sedan as a plug-in hybrid. Its S68 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 pairs with an electric motor for a combined 717 hp (727 PS) and 1,000 Nm. The trade-off is weight: the G90 tips the scales at roughly 2,435 kg, far heavier than the F90 it replaces.

Real tuning potential

The good news for tuners is that the S68 is twin-turbocharged and, by all independent dyno evidence, conservatively rated from the factory — stock cars have shown strong wheel figures before any modification. That points to genuine headroom for a calibrated ECU to raise boost within safe limits, optimise timing and fuelling, and sharpen the V8's response.

Weight changes the priorities

Because the G90 is so heavy, a smart build is not only about power. Braking capacity, tyre choice, and cooling matter more than on the old car, especially for repeated hard runs. Power without supporting hardware just heats the car up faster.

GCC heat and the hybrid system

In Kuwait and the GCC, up to 50°C ambient and 95 RON pump fuel define what is safe. The combustion calibration has to protect knock margin in that heat, and the hybrid battery and drivetrain need cooling headroom. A Gulf-specific file built for 95 RON and up to 50°C is the only responsible way to tune this platform here.
