AMG Engine Builds — Forged Short Blocks, Ported Heads & Crate Engines
YPG Motorsport builds Mercedes-AMG engines for race and high-performance street applications — forged short blocks, CNC-ported cylinder heads, and complete turnkey crate engines covering the M156 6.2L naturally aspirated V8, M177 4.0L twin-turbo V8, and M178 4.0L dry-sump twin-turbo V8. Every engine is assembled in-house, dyno-tested, and rated to 1,500HP+ with appropriate supporting modifications.
What We Build
Each YPG engine build starts with a fresh or reconditioned core — no customer core exchange required. The rotating assembly uses forged 4340 steel connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons with ceramic-coated crowns and Teflon-coated skirts, the same specification used in the world-record YPG C63 W205 (9.97-second quarter mile at 828 WHP). Cylinder heads receive full CNC porting with valve job, flow bench testing, and competition valve springs. Bearings are ARP-fastened throughout.
Builds are available in three configurations: forged short block (block, rotating assembly, oil pump, timing chain — ready for your existing heads and ancillaries), CNC-ported heads (as a standalone pair for your own short block), and complete crate engine (turnkey long block with heads, intake, and ancillaries — bolt in and go).
Build Specifications
The M156 6.2L V8 serves the C63 W204, E63 W211/W212, S63 W221, CLK63 C209, ML63 W164, and SLS AMG — naturally aspirated with forged internals rated for supercharger and turbo kits to 1,500HP+. The M177 4.0L twin-turbo V8 covers the C63 W205, E63 W213, GT63 X290, GLC63, GLE63, and GLS63 — hot-vee architecture with wet-sump oiling, available with upgraded turbocharger options. The M178 4.0L dry-sump V8 is exclusive to the AMG GT, GT S, GT R, GT C, and GT Black Series — dry-sump oiling for sustained high-G cornering loads, with flat-plane crankshaft builds available for the Black Series variant.
Process & Delivery
Build time is 7–21 days depending on engine code, build scope, and parts availability. Every completed engine is dyno-tested before shipping. Worldwide delivery via FedEx International Priority or DHL Express — GCC delivery typically 2–3 business days, US and Europe 5–7 business days. Engine crating and freight insurance are included in the build price.
