BMW S58 3D-Printed Cylinder Head: Additive Manufacturing in a Production M Engine
The BMW S58 is one of the first production engines to use 3D-printed (additively manufactured) components in its cylinder head construction. This is not a prototype curiosity or a limited-run feature — every S58 rolling off the line in the G87 M2, G80 M3, G82 M4, and X3 M / X4 M uses a cylinder head with a sand core produced via additive manufacturing.
