Bentley Bentayga ECU Tuning Guide — V8 & W12 | Stage 1 & Stage 2 | Power Gains & Build | 2026
Bentley Bentayga — The Luxury SUV with Serious Tuning Potential
The Bentley Bentayga is the world's most luxurious SUV, but beneath its hand-stitched leather and polished wood trim sits some genuinely potent hardware. Available with either a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (EA825 family) or the legendary 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12, the Bentayga responds remarkably well to ECU calibration — particularly the V8 variant, which shares its engine with the Lamborghini Urus, Audi RS6/RS7, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
At YPG Motorsport, we tune both the V8 and W12 Bentayga variants, offering Stage 1 and Stage 2 calibrations with remote tuning capability worldwide.
Bentayga Model Lineup
Bentayga V8
- Engine: EA825 4.0T V8 twin-turbo
- Power: 542 HP at 6,000 RPM
- Torque: 568 lb-ft at 2,000-4,500 RPM
- Transmission: 8-speed ZF automatic, all-wheel drive
- 0-100 km/h: 4.5 seconds
Bentayga W12 / W12 Speed
- Engine: 6.0T W12 twin-turbo
- Power: 600 HP (standard) / 626 HP (Speed)
- Torque: 664 lb-ft (standard) / 664 lb-ft (Speed)
- Transmission: 8-speed ZF automatic, all-wheel drive
- 0-100 km/h: 4.1 seconds (Speed: 3.9 seconds)
Bentayga Hybrid
- Engine: 3.0T V6 + electric motor
- Combined Power: 443 HP
- Note: Limited tuning potential — the V6 hybrid responds to calibration but gains are modest (~30-40 HP). We focus primarily on the V8 and W12 variants.
V8 Bentayga Tuning — The EA825 Advantage
The Bentayga V8 is arguably the best value in the entire Bentayga range for tuning. The EA825 4.0T V8 is identical in architecture to the engine in the Lamborghini Urus (where it makes 641-657 HP in Performante spec) and the Audi RS6/RS7. This means the Bentayga's 542 HP rating is well below the platform's proven capability.
Stage 1 — V8 (542 HP Stock)
- Stage 1 Output: ~600-610 HP / ~620-640 lb-ft
- Gain: +60-70 HP / +55-70 lb-ft
- Modifications: Software only — revised boost targets, ignition timing, fuel trims, torque limiter tables, throttle mapping
- Requirements: Stock hardware, 98-100 RON fuel
Stage 1 on the V8 Bentayga brings it to Urus-level power on a pure software calibration. The gains come from the same maps we modify across all EA825-platform vehicles — this is an engine family we know inside and out, having calibrated hundreds of units across Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, and Bentley applications.
Stage 2 — V8 (542 HP Stock)
- Stage 2 Output: ~660-680 HP / ~680-700 lb-ft
- Gain: +120-140 HP / +115-130 lb-ft
- Required Hardware: Sport downpipes (catted or catless), high-flow intake
- Optional: Upgraded intercooler, charge pipes
- Calibration: Higher boost ceiling, extended torque limits, revised fuelling for reduced exhaust backpressure
At Stage 2, the Bentayga V8 surpasses the W12 in outright power while maintaining the V8's lighter weight and better throttle response. This is the sweet spot for Bentayga performance — supercar power in a luxury SUV platform with proven reliability at these levels. The EA825 internals (forged crankshaft, forged connecting rods) handle Stage 2 output comfortably.
W12 Bentayga Tuning
The 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 is Bentley's flagship engine — a unique configuration that pairs two narrow-angle VR6 cylinder banks into a compact 12-cylinder package. Tuning the W12 is a different proposition than the V8:
Stage 1 — W12 (600-626 HP Stock)
- Stage 1 Output: ~660-700 HP / ~720-740 lb-ft
- Gain: +50-70 HP / +55-75 lb-ft
- Modifications: Revised boost targets, ignition timing optimization, torque limiter recalibration
- Requirements: Stock hardware, 98-100 RON fuel
Stage 2 — W12
- Stage 2 Output: ~720-750 HP / ~780-800 lb-ft
- Gain: +100-120 HP over standard W12
- Required Hardware: Sport downpipes, upgraded intake
The W12 responds to tuning, but proportional gains are smaller than the V8. This is because Bentley has already pushed the W12 closer to its limits in factory form — particularly on the Speed variant. The W12 also runs higher exhaust gas temperatures due to its configuration, which requires more conservative calibration margins.
V8 vs W12 — Which to Tune?
This is a question we get frequently. Here is our honest assessment:
| Factor | V8 (EA825 4.0T) | W12 (6.0T) |
|---|---|---|
| Stock Power | 542 HP | 600-626 HP |
| Stage 1 Power | ~600-610 HP | ~660-700 HP |
| Stage 2 Power | ~660-680 HP | ~720-750 HP |
| Percentage Gain (Stage 2) | ~25% | ~18% |
| Aftermarket Support | Extensive (shared platform) | Limited (unique engine) |
| Cost of Tuning | Lower | Higher |
| Parts Availability | Excellent | Moderate |
The V8 is the better tuning platform in almost every respect. It shares parts with the Urus, RS6, and Cayenne Turbo, meaning downpipes, intakes, and intercoolers are readily available and competitively priced. The W12, while impressive, is a unique engine with limited aftermarket support and higher tuning costs.
That said, a Stage 2 W12 Bentayga Speed producing 750 HP and 800 lb-ft of torque in a 2.4-tonne luxury SUV is an experience that nothing else on the road can replicate.
Remote Bench Tuning
Both the V8 and W12 Bentayga can be tuned remotely through our bench tuning service:
- ECU Removal: Your local workshop removes the ECU (we can provide removal instructions or connect you with an authorized partner)
- Shipping: Ship the ECU to YPG Motorsport via express courier
- Bench Read & Calibration: We read the ECU via bench, develop your custom calibration, and flash it
- Return: The calibrated ECU is shipped back — typically 3-5 business days turnaround
- Installation & Validation: Reinstall the ECU and send datalogs for verification
For V8 Bentayga models with compatible ECU hardware, OBD-based remote tuning may also be available — contact us for confirmation.
Supporting Modifications
- Sport Downpipes: Essential for Stage 2. Available in catted (street-legal) and catless configurations for both V8 and W12.
- Performance Intake: Improves airflow and turbo response. The V8 benefits from the same intake upgrades as the Urus and RS6.
- Upgraded Intercooler: Important for sustained performance in hot climates — the GCC region in particular.
- Brake Pads & Fluid: Upgraded brake pads and high-temperature fluid for track or spirited driving at elevated power levels.
