McLaren 720S ECU Tuning — Stage 1, 2 & 870HP Build | YPG Motorsport

The McLaren 720S with the M840T 4.0L twin-turbo V8 is one of the most capable tuning platforms in the supercar segment. Factory output is a conservative 720 HP — the M840T hardware is capable of well over 900 HP with the right calibration and supporting modifications. YPG Motorsport has built 720S Stage 2 builds producing 870+ HP at Kuwait Motor Town, validated on the GCC's only FIA Grade 2 certified circuit.

McLaren 720S Factory Specs

  • Engine: M840T 4.0L twin-turbo V8 (flat-plane crank)
  • Factory HP: 720 HP
  • Factory Torque: 770 Nm
  • 0–100 km/h: 2.8 seconds
  • Transmission: 7-speed SSG dual-clutch

Stage 1 — ECU Tune

Stage 1 on the 720S is available via OBD or bench depending on the ECU variant. YPG will confirm the correct method for your specific chassis after you make contact.

  • Power: 790–810 HP / +70–90 HP over stock
  • Torque: +100–120 Nm
  • Sharper SSG shift response and improved mid-range delivery

Stage 2 — ECU + Catless Downpipes + Intake

Stage 2 pairs the ECU calibration with catless race downpipes and an Eventuri cold air intake. On the M840T, the catless downpipes make the most dramatic single-part transformation — the sound goes from relatively subdued to properly aggressive, and the performance gain from reduced exhaust backpressure is measurable.

  • Power: 860–880 HP / +140–160 HP over stock
  • Sound: The M840T flat-plane V8 through catless pipes is a genuine highlight
  • Intake air temperature reduction critical in GCC summer heat

YPG's 920HP 720S Build

YPG Motorsport built a 720S Stage 2+ producing 920 HP, run at Kuwait Motor Town on the FIA Grade 2 circuit. This build used catless race downpipes, Eventuri intake, and a YPG full ECU calibration targeting maximum power on the factory turbochargers. The 720S at this power level on Kuwait Motor Town is a different machine entirely — the M840T twin-turbo at full boost past 4,000 RPM is among the most intense driving experiences available in any road-legal car.

GCC Calibration Notes

The M840T is extremely sensitive to intake air temperature. In GCC summer conditions, IAT at the filter can exceed 55°C in direct sun. YPG's 720S calibrations include aggressive IAT-based boost compensation — reducing boost pressure proportionally as intake temperatures rise — to protect the engine while maintaining maximum power when temperatures are lower. Generic tune files with no IAT compensation are a serious risk on this platform in Gulf summer.
